A milestone human rights training course for judges

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Judicial Academy (Academy) proudly announces that it is launching a 3-day Training of Trainers (ToT) – 24-26 February - programme for the judges of the District Judiciary of the KP. The programme is called ‘Human rights in the administration of justice’. The ToT aims at developing a pool of master trainers from amongst the judges of the District Judiciary who will train around 400 other judges. The overall goal of the programme is ‘to contribute to full enjoyment of human rights in the administration of justice at the district level’.

The programme is designed and lead by Dr Niaz A Shah, Senior Lecturer in Law, at the University of Hull, United Kingdom, on Pro Bono basis. Dr Shah is well known human rights scholar and expert on human rights issues in Pakistan. He has designed the programme Action Document, Training Manual for Master Trainers and Manual for Participants. As a Lead Trainer, he will conduct the ToT at the Academy in Peshawar whereas all international speakers from Australia, USA, UK and Ireland will join the training via video link.  The resource persons are highly reputed international human rights and international law scholars: Dr Emily Crawford (Australia), Elmer Wider (UK), Dr Sylvie Langlaude, Dr Tony Ward (UK), Prof Mashood Baderin (UK), and Prof Mel Dubnick, Dr Naz Modirzadeh and Prof Corri Zoli (USA).

Human rights reflectssignificantly on the Academy’s academic agenda. The programme is a milestone on the Academy’s thrust forward towards sustainability. The participants will have the privilege to hear lectures from international scholars. The Academy is highly obliged to all those scholars who will deliver lectures. The Chairman (the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court), the Director General and the Dean of the Academy are extremely grateful to Dr Shah for designing the programme especially on a pro bono basis in a moment of scarce resources. Thanks are due to our usual support, the UNDP, for providing us the video link facility.
