The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy conducted02-Day Training on Gender-Based Violence for Court Staff in collaboration with UNDP. Twenty-three court staff members from District Khyber and Mardan participated in the training.
Ms. Farah Jamshed, Director General KPJA welcomed the participants during the inaugural session and sensitized the participants to provide a conducive environment for women in courts being at the forefront. Caitlin Chittenden, Senior Rule of Law and Justice Reforms Specialist, United Nations Development Programme attended the session on behalf of UNDP.
The training aimed to create awareness and understanding amongst the court staff about GBV, challenges faced by GBV victims/survivors in access to justice, especially components of Women’s Access to Justice and to provide skills and tools to better support GBV victims/survivors,
The training was concludedon March 5, 2024. Mr. Muhammad Shoaib, Dean FacultyKPJA, presided over the concluding ceremony. In his closing remarks, he emphasized the crucial role and responsibilities of court staff, particularly in the context of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases. Mr. Samuel Rizk, Resident Representative of UNDP Pakistan, provided the overall perspective on GBV and commended the significant efforts of the KPJA in addressing this critical issue.
The closing ceremony was also graced by the presence of a high-level delegation, including Mr. Jeroen Willems, Head of Cooperation at the Delegation of the European Union in Pakistan, Ms. Meriem El Harouchi, Programme Manager, Education and Governance, European Union Delegation to Pakistan Mr. Rana Kaiser Ishaque, Assistant Resident Representative, Chief Democratic Governance Unit (DGU), Chamila Hemmathagama, Program Manager, UNDP and Ms. Saman Ahsan, Portfolio Manager, Ending Violence against Women, Governance & Human Rights.
The delegation further interacted with the trainees and faculty, and visited various wings of the Academy.
