Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy organized a 05-Day Training on “Human Rights and Rule of Law” for fifteen (15) judges of the District Judiciary with support of UNDP, Pakistan.
Mr. Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, honourable the Chief Justice, Peshawar High Court was chief guest during the inaugural ceremony of the training held on 27th November, 2023. Ms. Farah Jamshed, Director General of the Academy, welcomed the chief guest, the lead trainer and participants. She highlighted significance of the training on Human Rights and Rule of Law for judicial officers. In his keynote address hon’ble the Chief Justice, Peshawar High Court, remarked that human rights are essential for a just society. He emphasized that judges were not only entrusted with administration of justice in accordance with the law but also with the protection of inherent human rights and dignity of every individual. Dr. Niaz A Shah, Professor in Law, University of Hull and lead trainer presented an overview of previous trainings for judiciary conducted by him in collaboration with the Academy and other institutions. Dean Faculty and all Directors of the Academy were present at the occasion.
The training focused on key thematic areas relating to both international and domestic human rights law regime. Its objective was to create awareness about the role of the District Judiciary in the protection of human rights including topics on “International Human Rights Law”, “Islamic concept of the Rule of Law”, “Independence & Impartiality of Judiciary”. Etc.
The course concluded on 1st December, 2023. The Director General acknowledged efforts of the Peshawar High Court, the resource persons and UNDP for making activity a success. Syed Ali Raza, Additional District & Sessions Judge and Class Representative recommended that trainings on the subject may be considered for all judicial officers. Mr. Niaz A Shah, felicitated the participants on successful completion of the training. Later, certificates were distributed amongst the participants. The participants also presented souvenirs to the resource person, the Director General and representative of UNDP.
