Profile: 

Dr. Shakeel Azam Awan is a retired District and Sessions Judge. He has served as Dean Faculty, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy. He had also additional charge of Senior Director (R&P), KPJA. He is Ph.D. He did his Master of Laws with a distinction and LL.B with a Gold Medal.

He started his career as a lawyer and was later on appointed as Lecturer at University Law College, Gomal University. Thereafter, he topped the PCS (J) Examination and was appointed and recruited as a Civil Judge. He remained posted as a Civil Judge at Peshawar, Charsadda, Banda Daud Shah, Lakki Marwat, Bannu and Swat. He was then promoted as Senior Civil Judge and in that capacity he served at Kohistan, Karak, Tank and Battagram.

He has also served as Section Officer (Additional Draftsman) to Government of NWFP, Law, Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Department. He has been Deputy Registrar, Peshawar High Court, Bench D.I.Khan. As Additional District and Sessions Judge, he remained posted at Bannu, Kohat, Swat, Swabi and Haripur.

As a lawyer, Dr. Shakeel Azam has experience in multifarious areas of law especially constitutional law, labour and service matters, civil law, criminal law, accountability matters, corporate and commercial matters, intellectual property rights, contract management and legislative drafting.

As a lawyer, he has also been a Visiting Faculty Member at Khyber Law College, University of Peshawar, Frontier Law College, Peshawar, Islamia Law College, Peshawar and Center for Law and Democracy, Peshawar.  He takes keen interest in law reforms, politics of South Asia and international politics of water. He has authored several research papers.
