Three-Day Capacity Building Training for DRC Members Concludes at the Academy (2-4 February, 2026)

A three-day capacity building training program titled “Capacity Building of Dispute Resolution Council (DRC) Members on Mediation Techniques and Standardized Record Keeping” was successfully conducted at the Academy on 2nd to 4th February 2026. The training was organized with the support of KP Police and UNDP to enhance the professional capacity of DRC members in alternative dispute resolution and community justice.

The training program commenced with an inaugural session on Day-1, which began with registration and a pre-training evaluation, followed by a recitation from the Holy Quran. Mr. Jehanzaib Shenwari, Director General KPJA, welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of mediation, ethical practices, and standardized procedures in strengthening DRCs and reducing the burden on the formal justice system.

The academic sessions of the first day focused on the foundations of mediation and the role of DRCs. Mr. Akhtar Ali Shah, former Inspector General of Police, delivered comprehensive sessions on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), principles of mediation, communication and negotiation skills, and ethical standards including neutrality and confidentiality. The day also included a session on gender-sensitive and rights-based mediation, emphasizing inclusive and fair dispute resolution.

Day-2 of the training was dedicated to practical mediation skills. The sessions covered handling family, property, and community disputes, managing power imbalances, and addressing cases involving vulnerable groups. Interactive mediation role plays and simulations were conducted by Ms. Faryal, District & Sessions Judge and Director Instruction KPJA, enabling participants to apply theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios. The day concluded with feedback and learning from practice to further strengthen participants’ skills.

On Day-3, the focus shifted to record keeping and referral coordination, a critical component of effective dispute resolution. Mr. Akhtar Ali Shah guided participants on standardized case intake and registration, documentation formats, case tracking, data protection, and confidentiality. Participants were also briefed on referral pathways to police, courts, and social services, underscoring the importance of institutional coordination.

The training concluded with a concluding session, which included participant feedback, addresses by DG KPJA and Mr. Akhtar Ali Shah, and a certificate distribution ceremony. Both speakers appreciated the active participation of DRC members and reiterated the vital role of mediation in promoting social harmony and access to justice at the community level.

The three-day training significantly contributed to strengthening the capacity of DRC members, equipping them with practical skills, ethical frameworks, and standardized tools necessary for effective and transparent dispute resolution.
