Dr. Omar Usman Khan
Dr. Omar Usman Khan is a Professor of Computer Science at the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (FAST-NUCES), Peshawar, with over 12 years of post-PhD experience. He holds a PhD in Computer & Control Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, Italy (2013), and multiple advanced degrees in Computer Systems, Distributed Information Systems, and Software Engineering. His research spans computational linguistics, NLP, high-performance computing, quantum information theory, algorithmic graph theory, and signal/speech processing. Dr. Omar has served in multiple leadership roles including Campus Director (since 2021), HoD-CS (2016–2019), and Graduate Studies Coordinator. He is an active member of statutory bodies within FAST-NUCES and contributes externally to various universities and HEC committees as evaluator and reviewer.
He has secured over PKR 10.3 million in research funding, including major grants for quantum key distribution and seismic monitoring. Dr. Khan has authored 19 journal papers (18 with impact factor, cumulative IF: 35.85), 16 conference papers, and 1 book chapter (NATO-SPS). His notable talks cover AI in financial crime, quantum computing, and spintronics. With a Research Gate score of 196 and 239 citations, he also supervised a recent PhD thesis on improved spectral clustering. His technical skills span C/C++, OpenCL, CUDA, MPI, numerical libraries (FFTW, BLAS), network simulators, and HPC system administration.
