KPJA Concludes IMI-Accredited 40-Hour Mediation Skills Training (April 25, 2026)

Peshawar - April 25, 2026

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy (KPJA) on Saturday concluded the five-day LAS/MICADR IMI-Certified 40-Hour Mediation Skills Training with a formal concluding ceremony.

The concluding ceremony was graced by Mr. Justice Ijaz Anwar, Senior Puisne Judge of the Peshawar High Court/ Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors, KPJA, as Chief Guest. His presence underscored the high-level institutional commitment of the KP judiciary to embedding Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a mainstream judicial competence across the province.

The training, held from April 21 to 25, 2026, at the KPJA premises in Peshawar, was organized in collaboration with the Legal Aid Society (LAS) and the Musaliha International Center for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution (MICADR), under the internationally recognized accreditation framework of the International Mediation Institute (IMI). Participants — comprising District & Sessions Judges/Zila Qazis, Additional District Judges/Izafi Zila Qazis, Senior Civil Judges/Aala Ilaqa Qazis, and Civil Judges-cum-Judicial Magistrates/Ilaqa Qazis from multiple districts of KP, underwent 40 hours of rigorous instruction, practical exercises, and assessed mediation simulations across five progressive thematic modules.

The class representative, speaking on behalf of the participants, shared reflections on the transformative learning experience and expressed appreciation for the Academy's efforts in facilitating world-class mediation training within the province. The representative highlighted how the skills acquired — including interest-based negotiation, active listening, impasse-breaking, and joint meeting management — would directly enhance their effectiveness in reconciliation proceedings in family litigation.

The representative of LAS/MICADR also addressed the ceremony, reaffirming the organization's commitment to supporting the KP judiciary in scaling ADR capacity. The LAS representative noted the remarkable success of both training batches and expressed confidence in the participants' capability to serve as catalysts for a culture of mediation within their respective districts.

Director General KPJA, Mr. Jehanzeb Shinwari, in his remarks, commended the dedication and engagement of the participants throughout the five-day program. He emphasized that institutionalizing mediation skills within the judiciary is a strategic priority that directly serves the cause of swift and accessible justice for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He also acknowledged the invaluable partnership of LAS and MICADR in making this internationally accredited program available to KP's judicial officers.

This was the second batch of the training program. The first batch, conducted in December 2025, produced 24 IMI-accredited mediators — all of whom successfully passed the competency assessment. With the conclusion of the second batch, KPJA has now produced a growing cohort of internationally certified judicial mediators across the province.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates to all 23 participants, marking a significant milestone in KPJA's ongoing mission of capacity building for the justice sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
