Capacity Building Workshop for Judicial Officers on Refugee Protection & Human Rights (27 April, 2026)
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy (KPJA), Peshawar, organized a One-Day Capacity Building Workshop for Judicial Officers on Refugee Protection, Human Rights, and the Foreigner Act 1946. The event, held on 27 April 2026 at KPJA, was jointly conducted with the Society for Human Rights and Prisoners’ Aid (SHARP), with financial support of UNHCR.
Director General KPJA, Mr. Jehanzeb Shinwari, graced both the inaugural and concluding ceremonies. In his remarks, he reaffirmed KPJA’s commitment to strengthening judicial capacity and underscored the importance of rights-based adjudication in cases involving foreign nationals. At the close of the event, the DG conferred certificates upon all participants.
A total of 35 Civil Judges/Ilaqa Qazis from various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa participated in the workshop. Mr. Muddasir Javed, CEO SHARP, also addressed the participants, highlighting the organization's mandate in promoting access to justice and protection for vulnerable populations across Pakistan.
Technical sessions covered the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) with focus on Article 14, international protection frameworks and durable solutions, and the Foreigner Act 1946. The workshop adopted an interactive approach, with resource persons from UNHCR, the University of Peshawar, and the legal fraternity.
