Knowledge Sharing Session on “Banking Laws” (6th–9th May, 2024)

Inaugural Ceremony
In collaboration with the State Bank of Pakistan, a 4-day “Knowledge Sharing Session” commenced at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy, Peshawar with Judges of Banking Courts, Judge Special Court (Offences in Banks) Special Prosecutors, and lawyers dealing with cases under Banking Laws.
Mr. Justice Ijaz Anwar, hon’ble Senior Puisne Judge/ Vice Chairman Board of Governors, KPJA and The Administrative Judge, Banking Courts graced the inaugural ceremony as a Chief Guest.
Syed Imran Ali, Additional Director, State Bank of Pakistan gave keynote address regarding the session on behalf of State Bank of Pakistan.
 Ms. Farah Jamshed, Director General, KPJA welcomed participants and highlighted the objectives of the session with the aim to enhance overall efficiency of the stakeholders for further growth and development of the financial system of Pakistan and to build capacity of the participants.
Mr. Justice Ijaz Anwar, speaking at the occasion, appreciated the efforts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy and State Bank for chalking out a comprehensive schedule of activity for the participants. His Lordship added that it is imperative that all issues raised by the Banking Court Judges, particularly those concerning the execution proceedings, be addressed by the State Bank of Pakistan, as the designated regulatory authority.
Academic Session:
The inaugural session was followed by the discourses on “Legal & Regulatory Framework for Regulated Entities - an overview” by Sajid Khan, Joint Director, BPRD SBP.
The second discourse on “Legal Framework for the Recovery of Advances-I” was delivered by Mr. Najeebullah Sheikh, Senior Joint Director, SBP.
Interactive session was conducted by Syed Jibran Mushtaq Gilani, Law Officer, LSD SBP on “Legal Framework for the Recovery of Advances-II”.
Day-2:
The second day of the training started with recitation from the Holy Quran and feedback of the participants about the previous day activities. Followed by two consecutive sessions on “Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2010 and Counter Financial Terrorism Legal & Regulatory Framework” by Mr. Mohammad Sohail Khan, Joint Director, SBP.
Last session of the day was conducted by Mr. Sajid Khan, Joint Director, BPRD SBP on “Islamic Banking Framework”.
Day-3:
The third day of the training started with recitation from the Holy Quran and feedback of the participants about the previous day activities.
Mr. Shoukat Bizingo, Addl. Director, SBP gave a detailed discourse on Payment Systems of Pakistan.
Visit to State Bank of Pakistan-BSC Peshawar was part of the training activity. The participants were briefed about the functions of BSC, Cash and its circulation and destruction mechanism.
Later in evening, a mid-training official dinner was hosted by the State Bank of Pakistan for the participants.
Day-4:
Day started with recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by discourse on “Exploring Alternatives to Banking Dispute Resolution” by Syed Imran Ali, Addl. Director, SBP.
Mr. Yaser Arafat, Senior Joint Director, SBP delivered a comprehensive lecture on “Foreign Exchange Legal Framework – Foreign Exchange Regulations Act, 1947.
The concluding ceremony was chaired by Ms. Farah Jamshed, Director General KPJA. Senior officers of State Bank of Pakistan were also present at the occasion.
The class representative Mr. Salman Masood appreciated the efforts of the Academy for devising an effective knowledge sharing session.
In the concluding address, Ms. Farah Jamshed, Director General, shared that it was last ceremony as the Academy, as Director General. She felicitated everyone best wishes for the future. She lauded the endeavor of the faculty, staff of the Academy and partner agencies for rolling out successful trainings.
Certificates were conferred on the participants.
