The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy arranged a series of 05 Webinars on “the Right to Legal Aid through District Legal Empowerment Committees (DLECs).”
The objectives of the sessions were to enhance understanding of the DLEC Rules, 2011 and sensitize participants on their effective implementation.
The participants included District & Sessions Judges from Newly Merged Districts, Malakand Division, Hazara Division, Southern & Central Districts, Deputy Commissioners, President District Bar Associations, and Superintendents Jails/Central Prisons, members of Civil Society and nominee of Peshawar High Court.
The Academy concluded all five sessions on 15th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 21st of July, 2023.
Fourth webinar was conducted on 19th of July, 2023 with participants from Hazara Division. The last webinar of the series opened with an orientation session on the Right to Legal Aid, its international and national perspectives and on provision of Legal Aid through DLECs conducted by Ms. Farah Jamshed, Director General, KPJA with participants from Southern Districts on 21st July, 2023. It was followed by discussion & Q & A. Participants shared their views and experiences and suggested measures for improving the process of access to free legal aid and its effectiveness.
