The second batch of the two-part training series on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) concluded today, 8 January 2026, at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy (KPJA). The training series is being organized by KPJA in collaboration with Shirkat Gah – Women’s Resource Centre, and in partnership with UN Women, with the objective of strengthening gender-responsive and survivor-centered judicial responses to GBV.
Participants of the second batch included Additional District Judges (ADJs), Senior Civil Judges (SCJs), Civil Judges, and Prosecutors from various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The training aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of gender and GBV within the cultural context, strengthen knowledge of legal frameworks and judicial obligations, and promote trauma-informed and survivor-centered practices in the handling of GBV cases.
The inaugural and concluding sessions of the second batch were both chaired by Mr. Jehanzeb Shinwari, Director General KPJA, who reiterated the critical role of the judiciary and prosecution in ensuring access to justice for survivors of gender-based violence. He emphasized the importance of continuous capacity building to address structural inequalities, institutional biases, and discriminatory norms within the justice system.
The training sessions for the second batch covered the same thematic areas and were facilitated by the same resource persons as the first batch. Dr. Anoosh Khan led a session on understanding gender and gender-based violence, focusing on cultural context, patriarchal structures, anti-women practices, and the role of judges. Mr. Syed Yasir Shabbir, District and Sessions Judge, Karak, conducted two sessions on legal frameworks and judicial obligations related to GBV. A session on survivor-centered and trauma-informed justice, highlighting challenges and good practices in handling GBV cases, was delivered by Ms. Faryal Zia Mufti, District and Sessions Judge and Senior Director Administration, KPJA.
The program concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, presided over by DG KPJA Mr. Jehanzeb Shinwari, who distributed certificates among the participants.
